Description of Chakra Widia, Indonesia

Chakra Widia grew up in Ubud, Bali in a time where the people didn’t need money for food;  edible vegetation, fish, eels, and birds all thrived together in the rice fields.

Now that chemical farming has destroyed so much of this sustainable eco system, Chakra has devoted himself to developing sustainable agriculture and technology across Indonesia; from tsunami-ravaged Aceh, to the rice fields of Bali, where he has pioneered an organic Intensification System (SRI) for nutritious, heritage red rice.

Chakra began teaching Permaculture Design Courses 5 years ago and is a key contributor for permaculture implementation and education at the acclaimed Green School in Bali. His knowledge and practical skills range from appropriate technology, permaculture design training and project management, disaster aid, to consultancy for hotels and international NGOs. He is also the founder of Tri Hita Karana Permaculture Center in Bali, which seeks to promote the continuation of traditional Balinese agricultural practices & sustainable technologies.
