Course Description -

The 72 hour hands on, fully interactive course, follows the original recommended Permaculture Design Certificate Course curriculum by founder Bill Mollison, combined with knowledge of traditional sustainable practices used by the local Yon hill tribe people.

Although offering unique hands on experience in local methods including bamboo construction, the concepts covered in the course are applicable to all climatic zones and will allow you to immediately utilize skills learnt to create permaculture designs and integrate permaculture principles in any situation. The information will be delivered with a mixture of theory, hands on learning and group participation.

All studies are held in English

Principles and ethical basis of permaculture

Concepts and methods of permaculture design

Understanding Nature’s patterns

Conserving water resources

Aquaculture

Tree ecology

Soil analysis, health and rehabilitation

Composting and compost teas

Earth works- surveying, dams, swales and keylines

Climatic factors of humid tropics, dry lands, and humid to cool climates

Climatic design strategies for home and landscape

Designing for catastrophe and climate change

Group project  of a Permaculture Design for the new Tacomepai permaculture demonstration farm

 

Hands on Activities

Compost and compost tea making

Bamboo building construction techniques

Construction of a dry composting toilet

Surveying and construction of a swale

 

Additional learning will include a day and night spent in the forest with Sandot and local village guides to learn the art of bamboo construction, and recognition of forest herbs and plants and their particular uses.

Whilst on Tacomepai you will also get experience in natural building techniques (both bamboo and mud), using charcoal oven to produce natural vinegar, and methods of natural dying of cotton.

A rest day is also included where you will have the opportunity to explore the local area or simply enjoy the peace of the farm!

An additional trip will be offered after the course completion to visit  the Royal Thai Kings Rice Project and local hill tribe village led by Project leader Siva Poug, who specialises in sustainable rice production and social development.
