Course Description -

Learn the techniques used by masters of urban farming and edible landscaping from around the globe, and creating your own food supply in your own backyard.
 
This weekend workshop will cover a number of the most successful sustainable urban food growing techniques from the US and elsewhere.  This series will include hands-on learning and written materials to refer to and will incorporate several guest speakers.  This is an information packed weekend that will offer valuable information to everyone, whether you are experienced or inexperienced.

 • Florida specific growing techniques
 • Remedies for sandy soils
 • Capturing water in the landscape
 • Growing in the summer heat (a wide variety of greens, veggies, etc, grow great and taste delicious)
 • Using perennial vegetables in the landscape
 • How to produce abundant food year round
 • Seasonal planting (what to plant when, and how)
 • Making beautiful soil
 • Composting – includes vermicomposting (info about Growing Power’s extremely productive system as well as several others),  and rapid composting techniques – composting problems and how to remedy
 • Building soil sustainably in your garden (which plants to use, where to plant them and when, etc)
 • Food forests – what are they and how do they work?
 • How to create a sustainable, abundant edible landscape
 • No-water methods
 • Successful strategies for achieving food security via government, community and the family
 • Farming and food cooperatives
