Urban & Rural Two week (PDC): Cincinnati, Ohio
Course Description -
We will have the unique opportunity to host the PDC at two locations to highlight the many contexts in which we are working. We will be stationed for the first five days at OM Valley Permaculture demonstration site in the hills of one of the cities most eclectic neighborhoods of Northside. Here Braden, with the help of many volunteers and students, has been creating a small demonstration site with this unique piece of land that makes you feel like you are a bit rural but get a nice skyline view at the same time. Ripe with chicken tractors and food forests, a small nursery and native forest, this site lends itself well to learning and being able to use it as a base to explore some of the other urban locales with sustainability initiatives.
For the last 7.5 days after the day off, we will be given the great opportunity to be hosted by Grailville Ecovillage, just 35 minutes north of the city center of Cincinnati in Loveland, Ohio. On this 300 acres of rolling hills of forest and rich pastoral landscape, we see a different context, broad-scale permaculture and social Permaculture to deepen our understanding of this all encompassing topic. They also have quite a clever and approved waste water treatment station and hold true to their virtue of women’s empowerment and the arts.
The two week course will include 80+ hours of instruction through lectures, hands-on sessions, interactive exercises, and design projects to deliver the full Permaculture Design Certification.
